Taking Action on Student Financial Capability

Taking Action on Student Financial Capability: CFEB held an important conference on 9 June with members of the higher education sector to launch the exciting results of an evaluation of our Money Doctors programme, and to look at the work of four universities who have created innovative and cost-effective ways to embed financial capability in their curriculum.

Amongst the results, the evaluation found that 88% of student money advisers said Money Doctors had helped them deliver a more proactive service. 63% of students said they have taken, or plan to take, action as a result of a Money Doctor session. 30% of students who had visited their Money Doctor said this had actually helped them 'afford to stay at university'.

The audience heard from Professor Claire Callender, Birkbeck University of London, and Ben Whittaker, Vice-President - Welfare, National Union of Students, who addressed the key issues around student financial capability.
