Background

The Consumer Financial Education Body (CFEB) is an independent body whose statutory objective is to promote public understanding of the financial system by helping consumers understand financial matters and manage their finances better.

High quality market research has a fundamental role in helping to ensure that the actions we take are based on sound evidence. A consumer research and evaluation team within the organisation is taking the lead on commissioning external market research. The team also conducts some primary and secondary research in house.

What does this job involve?

The role will involve providing desk and secondary research working as part of the Consumer Research and Evaluation and is an exciting opportunity. You can expect a varied remit encompassing strategy, new product development, and evaluation. You will have responsibility for creating and maintaining a ‘library’. You'll also have the satisfaction of making a real difference to people's lives by equipping them with the financial skills needed to take control of their finances.

The role is for a desk / secondary researcher or a market intelligence officer who has an understanding of how consumer research is delivered, a knowledge of information sources and excellent written communication skills.

Key tasks will be:

  • Liaising with various internal clients and research suppliers, ensuring the teams agenda is delivered effectively.
  • Providing research/information, that it is fit for purpose, cost effective and will withstand external scrutiny.
  • Key tasks will include conducting thorough searches of the internet, newspapers, journals, industry databases, government websites and a whole host of other sources. Interpreting what that information means for the business and providing written summaries. Creating and maintaining a ‘library’ of information and responding to requests for information from both internal and external colleagues.

Essential

  • Curiosity
  • Good IT skills
  • Ability to form good working relationships with colleagues
  • Good planning, in particular to identify foreseeable issues and problems
  • Project management experience, including ability to manage several projects at the same time
  • Excellent writing skills (to publication standard)
  • Ability to work to deadlines and under pressure

Desirable

  • Have relevant experience of consumer research in the financial market place
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm for the opportunity, commitment and energy required to taking forward the FSA's programme of research and evaluation.

Remuneration

The salary range for this Associate role is £25,000 to £34,000, depending upon skills and experience. We offer a competitive remuneration package, which consists of a base salary, pension, core and flexible benefits.
