Money Guidance
What is Money Guidance
Our national financial advice service provides people with free and impartial information and guidance on the money matters that shape everyday life. It covers areas like:
- budgeting;
- saving and borrowing;
- protection;
- retirement planning;
- tax and welfare benefits; and
- jargon-busting
We deliver the service through three channels:
- Online at www.moneymadeclear.org.uk
- Over the phone on 0300 500 5000
- In face-to-face sessions with trained Money Guides.
The online and telephone services are currently available nationally. Face-to-face sessions are available in 37 priority areas across the UK, and will be available to all from spring 2011.
The service complements the regulated financial advice industry by providing a simplified, first-step service for people who may never have previously sought financial guidance and signposts them to specialist financial and other advice as necessary.
We work with contractors to deliver the telephone and face-to-face service. It is designed and evaluated by CFEB. And it is completely sales-free.
What was behind the idea?
The Thoresen Review of Generic Financial Advice, published in March 2008, suggested that a national money guidance service could realise significant benefits for society. A ‘pathfinder’ pilot of the service was launched in April 2009 and ran for twelve months.
Following the success of the pathfinder, CFEB was asked to take the service forward across the UK.
