Tackling the anxiety of catalogue, mortgage and credit card debts
Money had been very tight for a long time and I was receiving no help from my ex-partner to support me and my three children.
My mortgage was in arrears of £2,000 and I had started to receive letters threatening court action. I also owed money on credit cards. But I was most ashamed of my catalogue debts of £4,000 and was constantly worried about someone knocking on my door for money.
Regular weekly appointments with the Money Doctors helped me to prioritise my debts, budget, look at reducing mortgage repayments and consider income generation. I also received advice on welfare benefits and formulating a strategy for using my credit cards more effectively. And forward planning for the next academic year meant I could see that completing my studies was a viable option.
Initially I needed a great deal of emotional support and kept in touch with daily texts, telephone calls and emails. Once I feeling more in control of my financial situation, I grew in confidence and became less dependent.
The knowledge and skills I’ve gained from the Money Doctors will have a lasting impact on my future attitudes and behaviour.
