Student with spiralling debts put on the road to recovery
I was constantly borrowing off other students and owed over £6,000 on credit cards, a bank overdraft, store cards, mobile phone and rent arrears. I had no income because my parents were no longer prepared to subsidise me. When I got my student loan I was shocked at how it had all disappeared in paying back my overdraft. Finally my flat mates persuaded me to get help from The Money Doctors.
I attended regular Money Doctors appointments to look at budgeting and cash flow. They helped me think about spending choices, buying only what I needed rather than wanted and looking for best value deals. They also encouraged me to find part time work as quickly as possible. I got a job in a superstore in Chiswick and despite the distance and unsociable hours, I was given a full-time position over the summer vacation.
I was very worried that I would have to leave university ad return home a failure but the Money Doctors' support helped me feel empowered and able to confront and deal with my debts.
