Undergraduate applies for several crisis loans
I was living in university residences and finding it really difficult to manage my finances. I even applied for several crisis loans. My friends were so worried about me that they called Money Doctors on my behalf. I missed several appointments because I was so ashamed that I felt like I couldn’t leave my room.
Money Doctors managed to get me to open my door with drinks and munchies. They gave me one-to-one surgery, helping me to list my debts and creditors and prioritise them. I used to go to weekly appointments and was able to drop in whenever I needed to chat. I went to workshops on priority and non-priority debts, budgeting and need versus want awareness, learnt to contact creditors using pro forma “no offer” and “offer” letters, filled out daily money diaries and recorded my ATM transactions.
I still visit Money Doctors, but much less than I used to, and I’m now a Money Doctor representative. I am learning even more new skills including peer mentoring and training in managing student debt.
